Korntorp in Alböke parish is a small well-preserved village with two farms that have buildings from the 19th century and a clear distinction between arable walled-in infield areas of fields and meadows (in swedish gärde) on one hand and the outfields (pasturse on alvar) on the othwer hand.
During the Middle Ages, there was only one farm here called Koratorp. The oldest information we have about the village is from 1436. At that time, Peder Tyrgilsson, was here as a company witness. In the early 16th century, the farm was owned by Vreta monastery.
The village arable walled-in infield areas is located southwest of the settlement. The outfields consists of an open and well-grazed alvar that extends all the way down to Kalmarsund.
According to the County Administrative Board, Korntorps village is an area of particular interest from a cultural and natural environment point of view (Areas K86 and N83 in Nature and Culture on Öland, County Administrative Board in Kalmar County 2001).
